What is Bubble Tea?

With summer here, Bubble Teas are one of the most popular offerings here at Jaho. Yet, many people are still unfamiliar with the drink. Bubble Tea or 珍珠奶茶(zhēnzhū nǎichá) in Chinese, is best known for the black pearls found in the drink. These "bubbles", "boba" or "tapioca balls" ar… Continue

New Jaho Baristas!

We have three new baristas joining us: Monica, Meredith and Hannah. They're doing a great job so far and we're all very happy to have them on board! Make sure you say hi to them if you see them working because pretty soon they'll be making wonderful lattes and mochas with beautiful latte art for you.

History

It's hard to say exactly where Jaho Coffee & Tea began; it could have been in Salem the day it opened, or maybe in Seoul, South Korea when founder Anil Mezini first thought about opening a coffee house. But the truth is, it all began in a small Italian town, San Marino, a few miles outside of Rome. It was here, in a small coffee bar that Anil first experienced the simple joy of fine espresso. Anil continued to travel across Italy, making stops in Rome, Milan and Perugia, studying and sampling the deepest, most flavorful roasts and brews the country had to offer.
After a brief stop at his home town of Salem, MA, Anil was off again, this time to the Land of the Rising Sun. It was in Japan that he was introduced to the world of tea and, more importantly the concept of slowlife. He realized the importance of surroundings and having a comfortable, serene environment to turn a simple cup of tea into a relaxing experience. His love for tea grew as he traveled to more exotic locations: Thailand, Taiwan, and finally South Korea, where inspired by his favorite Seoul coffee bar, he first began thinking about opening Jaho Coffee & Tea.
He returned home to Salem, and underwent months of research and hands on practice before finally deciding he was ready to open up Jaho. Since opening on August of 2005, Jaho has become Salem's favorite coffee shop and a regular stop for many of the locals.

Our Philosophy

At Jaho it's more than just about a great cup of coffee or a gourmet pastry, it's about how you enjoy it; sitting in our comfy lounge chairs, listening to some good music, catching up with an old friend.
Our goal of creating a relaxing environment is second only to our commitment to top quality products. What's so special about Jaho's gourmet foods, coffee and tea?
Jaho is unique. Here you'll find the finest products from all over the world, bringing the best of five continents onto one menu. Jaho is the only place in Salem where you can find Chinese green tea hand blended with natural fruits and prepared for you fresh in a tea press or pot.
Jaho is gourmet. All our food is prepared specially by Jaho's own chef, Pellumb and our baker, Niko. Taste the difference that thirty years of professional experience makes in everything from the home-baked Foccacia Bread, to the authentic gelato made fresh on the premises to our signature Tiramisu and Banana/Zuchini/Blueberry breads.
Jaho is Fair Trade. It is important to us that all of our products are not only top quality, but that all our coffees and many of our teas are organic/Fair Trade. This helps ensure sustainability in the developing countries where most coffees and teas come from.
