Live Slow

At Jaho Coffee & Tea we believe in living slow, taking a few minutes out of a busy day to sit down with a cup of your favorite beverage.

Quick Fact 3: Mocha is named for a long lost port?

Thriving Mocha was once Arabia's largest trading port, and the popularity of the coffee it exported - mocha coffee - has extended from 17th century Europe until present day, long after the port itself had vanished in the sand.

Quick Fact 2: Napoleon owed his success to the cafe!?

Renowned French leader Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) lowed coffee so much he gave it to his troops. It is believed the personal connections he formed during frequent visits to cafes from his days as a soldier provided the foothold for his later success.

Sit down & relax...

Welcome to Jaho. We love coffee, we love tea, we love great food. We love sitting in a relaxing café and watching the world go by. And, most of all, we love trying new things, meeting new people and traveling to new, exciting places.
To us, life is a journey filled with beautiful pictures, far-away places, new tastes, good friends and the stories that we all share. We hope you’ll join us in our journey and share your own experiences. Finally, we hope you’ll enjoy everything you try at Jaho as much as we do.

History

It's hard to say exactly where Jaho Coffee & Tea began; it could have been in Salem the day it opened, or maybe in Seoul, South Korea when founder Anil Mezini first thought about opening a coffee house. But the truth is, it all began in a small Italian town, San Marino, a few miles outside of Rome. It was here, in a small coffee bar that Anil first experienced the simple joy of fine espresso. Anil continued to travel across Italy, making stops in Rome, Milan and Perugia, studying and sampling the deepest, most flavorful roasts and brews the country had to offer.
After a brief stop at his home town of Salem, MA, Anil was off again, this time to the Land of the Rising Sun. It was in Japan that he was introduced to the world of tea and, more importantly the concept of slowlife. He realized the importance of surroundings and having a comfortable, serene environment to turn a simple cup of tea into a relaxing experience. His love for tea grew as he traveled to more exotic locations: Thailand, Taiwan, and finally South Korea, where inspired by his favorite Seoul coffee bar, he first began thinking about opening Jaho Coffee & Tea.
He returned home to Salem, and underwent months of research and hands on practice before finally deciding he was ready to open up Jaho. Since opening on August of 2005, Jaho has become Salem's favorite coffee shop and a regular stop for many of the locals.
